UAMS- Little Rock
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a public health sciences university and hospital located in Little Rock, Arkansas, engaged Clear Energy as a subcontractor to an ESCO to audit and develop a scope of work to retrofit or replace the existing lighting in over five million square feet of buildings and exterior lighting across the campus. The goals of the retrofit were to lower energy usage while maintaining light levels, improve light quality and consistency, and lower maintenance expenses.
Our Work:
A lighting audit was performed, and we recommended the scope of work to retrofit or replace lights across the campus including 35 buildings, 3 parking structures, and exterior lighting.
We retrofitted ~66,000 fixtures from fluorescent, incandescent, and high intensity discharge (HID) lamps to efficient LED lamps or fixtures. The work was coordinated with the hospital and university classes to continue normal operations with minimal interruption. All hazardous materials removed during the lighting retrofits were recycled.
The Results:
The result of the retrofit was to reduce lighting energy demand by ~3,300 kW and ~15,000,000 kWh annually. Light levels were equal or greater after the lighting retrofit, and improved light color uniformity and consistency was provided. In addition, the number of types or SKUs of lamps required for ongoing maintenance was consolidated to help improve uniformity and standardization for the future.
